Latest news!

I had my first ever cupcake stall at my daughter's school fair in November 2008. I lovingly baked and decorated 6 dozen cakes and tentatively turned up on the day . . . and sold them all in half an hour! I was spotted by another school and invited to take part in their Christmas event and it's all snowballed from there. This summer, I am spreading my cakey joy in local parks, community events and summer fairs and have even now taken out public liability insurance to cover all eventuality . . .

This weekend, I will be taking my cakes to the Blaker's Park Community Picnic, a fantastic local event that we have enjoyed for the past eight years or so. (more info here: www.blakerspark.blogspot.com ). So, this week I've been busy making bunting, a new apron and generally creating a 'look' for Cupcake Jo. It's been quite fun but sleep has been a luxury! I'm just hoping now that the weather stays nice . . . .!

cupcake craziness!

Aren't cupcakes popular these days?!

As a child growing up in the 1970s, it was always a joy to come home from school to find my mother spooning mixture into little floral paper cake cases. It was an almost intolerable wait; gazing through the oven door to see them rise gently and turn a warm honey brown; the amazing warm sweet vanilla smell as they were put on the wire cooling rack; burning the tip of your tongue on the fluffy, steaming insides because you sneaked a bite before they were cool enough.

Of course, in those days, a bit of icing sugar was sprinkled on the top or, on special occasions, buttercream butterflies were created - nothing like the marvellously frosted and elaborate creations that are popular now.

My cupcakes capture the essence of the traditional light sponge cake fairy cake of old whilst at the same time creating beautiful and decadent treats - a veritable visual feast that won't disappoint the tastebuds, either!

A new venture . . .

Hello! My name is Johanna and for the past fifteen years or so I have been providing my family and friends with lovingly made cakes and biscuits. After years of being nagged to 'do something' with what others believe to be a talent, I have finally decided to spread cakey joy further afield and now offer a bespoke cake making service to the folk of East Sussex (and beyond!)

If you are looking for mass produced cakes that look beautiful but taste of nothing much, you've come to the wrong place. (Sorry - your best bet is to pop down to your local supermarket . . .)

However, if you are looking for cakes made with love, care and attention to detail, using organic ingredients and baked within 6 hours of delivery/collection, then WELCOME to Cupcake Jo!!
